On October 1st, Lamborghini revealed that they would release their first hybrid vehicle, the Lamborghini Asterion LPI 910-4. The automobile will make its debut at the 2014 Paris Mondial de l’Automobile. The Asterion will specifically aim to reduce CO2 emissions by reducing weight, while maintaining the luxury and drivability of a Lamborghini. Stephan Winkelmann, the President and CEO of Auomobili Lamborghini stated “Lamborghini is always looking ahead, investing in new technologies and setting new benchmarks, delivering the unexpected.”
In order to execute their new hybrid model, Lamborghini decided to employ a PHEV solution. The Asterion will provide urban driving with electric power, and a range of 50 km when the car is only using battery energy. This city driving pure electric range puts the Asterion at the top of its class of hybrid super sports cars. The vehicle has a top hybrid/combined speed of 320 km/h and reaches up to 125 km/h with pure electric power.
The Asterion will maintain all the design elements of a Lamborghini. The front end of the car is produced as a single component, which will give the Asterion a dynamic appearance. The luxury hybrid will also include headlights that are realized in materials that include forged carbon and titanium.
