Ford Motor Company recently announced that the 2015 Expedition earned the highest safety rating given by the United States government. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTS) awarded the 2015 Ford Expedition five stars in the agency’s new car assessment program. NHTS operates the safety program for all new automobile designs by testing vehicle safety features against a wide variety of threats. The test includes multiple runs that monitor the effect of strong side and front impacts on both the vehicle and passengers.
Director of the Ford Global automotive Safety Office, Steve Kenner, credits the highest possible NHTS safety rating to the automaker’s commitment to developing the most advanced vehicle safety technology. “The 2015 Expedition now has driver-assist technology features that are new to the nameplate,” said Kenner. “These technology upgrades make Expedition the full-size utility vehicle for customers who want capability, style, and modern conveniences.”
Cutting Edge Safety Features
The 2015 Ford Expedition includes several safety features designed to protect drivers and passengers. Some of the new features place the vehicle’s safety directly in the hands of drivers. Expedition safety systems such as Advance Trac with Roll Stability Control and SOS Post-Crash Alert engage sensors to detect potential safety issues. The sensors relay signals to keep the 2015 Ford Expedition on the straight and narrow. Tire pressure monitoring and traction control safety features ensure the SUV does not lose its grip on slick road surfaces and over rugged terrain.
Taking the Guesswork Out of Driving
Ford integrates safety features that take the guesswork out of driving the 2015 Expedition. The Blind Spot Information System deploys sensor-based radar technology to alert drivers whenever a vehicles or pedestrians enter blind spots. Drivers backing away from crowded parking spaces and vision obscured driveways benefit from the technology.
Best Selling SUV
In 2014, the Ford Expedition maintained its position as the leading SUV by posting the most sales within the vehicle category. Ford upped the performance ante for the 2015 model by winning best in class towing and interior design awards. The 2015 model represents Ford’s most powerful and best fuel efficient Expedition to date, as the SUV’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 engine delivers 365 horsepower and 420 pounds-feet of torque. The SUV provides owners with an EPA estimated rating of 16 miles per gallon city and 22 miles per gallon highway fuel economy.
