When Chevrolet-parent General Motors redesigned its large Impala sedan for the 2014 model year, the company transformed it from rental-fleet darling to serious contender. Its sophomore year brings some minor revisions to the drivetrain and feature set. The 2015 Chevrolet Impala is a full-size sedan that borrows elements of its basic design from the upscale Buick LaCrosse and premium Cadillac XTS. Engineers are adding an engine idle stop/start system to the Impala’s standard four-cylinder engine, which saves fuel by shutting down the engine at a stop and instantly restarting it when the driver releases their foot from the brake pedal. Those wanting more punch can order a V-6 engine, which for 2015 offers an option to run on either gasoline or compressed natural gas (CNG). This makes Impala only the second car available to the general public that offers CNG capability (the other is the Honda Civic Natural Gas). It’s no excitement machine, but Impala delivers a cushy ride and roomy interior. The intuitive MyLink infotainment system and 4G LTE with built-in WiFi hotspot will keep drivers connected and the kids entertained on long road trips. Overall, Impala is a winning blend of Cadillac-style and features at Chevrolet prices.
